MONDAY, OCTOBER 8TH

I cannot believe it is my last week student teaching! It flew by so fast! This week is pretty low key since they are waiting for their pieces to be fired and they have PSAT on Wednesday. So today I decided to demo throwing on the wheel since a lot of them expressed interest in the wheel. I used it as kind of a pitch to sell Ceramics 1 to my students and get them excited about it. They all seemed very engaged and interested and several of them tried to throw on the wheel! The wheel is always super interesting to students because it's like magic. I want to figure out ways to incorporate that same wonder and enthusiasm about other techniques I teach, because on wheel demo days, the students are always engaged.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH

Today was a review day. We played a Kahoot Quiz and then they had the rest of class to study quietly. It was nice to have time to catch up on some grading and other work that needs to be finished before I leave. I completed and submitted my EdTPA so that's a load off my shoulder!

Here is a super cool sculpture by a student in AP 3D! Made me think of creating and "exquisite corpse" project for my 3D students. I'll have to try it when I'm an actual teacher!

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH

Students took the PSAT's this morning, so I worked on creating little thank you gifts for each of my students. I wrote up a recommendation slip, telling them which art classes I think they would be most interested in or excel at in the future and then a little thank you note on the back. Then I made stickers for them. I always like the mantra, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." from The Help, so I drew a little raccoon saying that mantra so they are always reminded they are important!

The rest of the day was a clean up day. The studio gets pretty dusty and dirty during the ceramics unit, so we take time to wipe down all the surfaces, reclaim clay, and clean all the tools. Kids really enjoyed reclaiming clay, not sure why!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11TH

Not much to report. Students took their ceramic quiz and did remarkably well even though we went over SO much information. The cool part was, that a lot of the questions were not explicitly taught in a lesson, but things they learned and experienced during the construction of their vessel. I was worried the questions were going to be to hard for them to answer because it wasn't explicitly in the powerpoint I taught at the beginning of the unit, but they did very well!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH

MY LAST DAY! I feel like this last day compared to the average student teacher's last day is drastically different. I have been at this school for TWO years. It felt like I was honestly leaving a job, not a student teaching experience. I really can't imagine not going back anymore. I have hopes for the future, but I think it's going to take a while to get there. But who knows.

All of my classes had a party. I brought in treats and showed them where I was going to be in Australia, some of the interesting customs I am aware of before I get there, what I wanted to learn and do, and then gave them their presents. Then, each class presented me with a booklet of notes of encouragement and thanks! Danielle organized everything and it could not have been a more thoughtful and meaningful gift. Even the art department and color guard made me ones! They were amazing! I am seriously going to miss Fishers. I have never been more overwhelmed with love and gratitude. I am the teacher I am today because of them.
