ix. learning from others

Our teacher candidates will demonstrate that they can facilitate their students’ learning in a variety of group situations.

Rationale: In American society today, individuals are often expected to work with others in groups. Teachers should be able to provide their students with appropriate opportunities to learn from one another. Such an orientation requires changing their traditional teaching role from instructor to facilitator. Therefore, teachers should know a variety of effective techniques for teaching students in small groups. They should value the educational and social importance of completing common tasks through cooperative effort. They should be able to use teaching and learning techniques that develop and enhance their students’ collaborative efforts.
