Another eventful day! I learned to etch metal in Jewelry 1. One of my students walked me through the process and I could tell he really enjoyed being the teacher. I also took the first two periods to create an example of a mono-print for student choice day next week. Ms. O will be leading a printmaking class and needed an example to show them.
Intro to 3D is nearing the end of the wet stage of their clay projects. They are turning out great! I am so impressed with all of their work! So we're at the stage where half the class is done and half the class still needs more time. Ms. O said she's going to have the wet date due on Tuesday so that's not too bad. I should've suggested having the students who are done do one of the tutorial projects that I compiled for students who have down time, but I will remember for next time.
I popped into Ms. Osborne's room to check out a few of her ceramics classes, and as always I am totally blown away by her innovative projects and the products created by her students. Some of the projects she has them working on include wind chimes and a "collectable" (seashells, insects, bones, etc). She is going to display the collectables in draws so it's like an actual collection of objects you'd find in a scientist's cabinet. The wind chimes are beautiful and again I would never think to make wind chimes from ceramics, but they look and sound great!
During prep period, we all were trained by a technician on how to operate our manual kiln. We haven't used it much but now that we were given the instructions on how to get it up and running, we'll be able to fire ceramic pieces in larger quantities and more efficiently.
After school, IB students had there showcase, so I stuck around to see their work. I loved the set up in the smaller rooms and they did a great job. A lot of administration came by to see their work so it was good to see them with an audience.
