Another fun day at Fishers! Today I learned how to rivet in Jewelry 1. Ms. O had a student in the class show me. She seemed timid at first and said she wasn't the best, but I think teaching me the process helped strengthen her own understanding and boost her self-confidence. A lot of the books I'm reading in my methods course suggest that peer-teaching or having a student demonstrate a technique they know or came up with to their peers or the teacher, helps students reinforce their own skills and develops classroom community. I often see students taking it upon themselves to demonstrate a technique or help a peer through a problem at their table groups. Anyway, riveting is super hard. And then Ms. O taught me how to patina my work to add contrast or emphasis. I'm liking how my little raccoon is turning out!

Intro to 3D is finishing up their wire portraits. THANK GOODNESS. This project was a pain, but they rolled with it and produced some pretty cools things. I don't think that I'll use it for student teaching. And now that wire project is done the CLAY UNIT BEGINS. Super duper excited to have my unit taught. I think they are really going to enjoy it. I developed it last semester after Ms. O told me she didn't want to do the totem poles anymore. I spent the day looking over all the materials I developed, making sure I was getting across the information they need to complete the project and successfully take the quiz. I also worked on developing a pacing chart for Ms. O to reference since I won't be here every day. I am really excited for the unit to begin!
Then we spent prep period in Ms. Osborne's classroom and I got to see some her student work which is just crazy cool and innovative. I say it over and over, but when students have autonomy and access to quality materials and resources, they will just take off. That's why I refuse to work anywhere that does not have adequate funds to support the arts.
Other than that I do not have much else to report! I am so ready to student teach. I can't imagine how people in CoT must feel having a mentor for longer than 3 semesters, I'm starting to get a little stir crazy because I just want to be in the classroom everyday and actually see through a project.
