Okay, first off, I thought seminar was AMAZING. I was so incredibly happy with the results of the main poem activity. I really did learn so much about my peers in a fun and engaging way. I am badgering everyone to post their poems so I can collect evidence and plus I think it would be cool to compile them into a little booklet for everyone to have at the end of the year, but I only two people have posted them. I felt that everything went smoothly and that I managed my time A LOT better than my first lead last semester. I just honestly feel good about how seminar went. I am also glad that we discussed guidelines to make our responses in current event (and in seminar) more rigorous and grounded. I think this is going to help us moving forward and I feel a lot more comfortable now.
I am now beginning to gain some ground in my mentorship. I feel more comfortable talking to the students who appear to be open to engaging in discussion, but am still working on talking to those who work on their projects with their headphones in and avoiding eye contact when I walk by (not in a mean way though). I'm beginning to understand the personalities of each class. For example, first period is social with each other while second period is dead silent. So I'm working on figuring out what works best for engaging with each set of students. Ms. O and I skyped with Alex to make the mentorship official. Yay! Ms. O is definitely excited to have me take on a more active role in the classroom which makes me less nervous. Right now I am helping her look for sketchbook assignments for her drawing 4 class, so I'll be working on that over the week. I think what I am going to do next is send her over my portfolio action plan so she can help arrange opportunities to collect certain pieces of evidence I'm aiming to have for my expectation. I'm glad we're making action plans now, I think it's going to be very beneficial for everyone involved! I plan to dig my heels in and get moving next Friday, so I'll have more to report then. Here is a LINK to my notes from today!
Also, I'm going to keep a log of BA Art of the Week by Ms. O's students. Here is today's pick. It's not a photograph. It's colored pencil. Colored. Pencil.
Wow.
