Sending Emails

This week, after getting my curriculum vitae and personal statement checked off by Gretchen,

I sent emails to four schools. I sent emails to Bloomington High School South, Carmel High School, Center Grove High School, and Brown County High School. Some of the information on the participating school's list needs to be updated because two of the emails did not send since there was a new principal at the both schools. I was extremely nervous when I sent the first email, but after that I just sent them out with out a second thought. I chose Bloomington South and Brown County due to their close proximity. I chose Carmel because even though it's way out there, I figured it would be a cool experience to visit such a well-established school with a developed and respected fine arts department. Then I sent one to Center Grove because it's not too far away, but it's outside of Bloomington. I have received two responses, one from Center Grove and one from Carmel. Center Grove connected me to their assistant superintendent in charge of education programming and Carmel forwarded me to the head of their art department. I am still waiting further responses from them and from the other two high schools I emailed. I am very eager to begin observing in real classrooms at schools other than my home town's.

Our second meeting for Alpha went well. I'm still trying to get used to jumping in whenever I have a thought. For example, when we were talking about the Swinomish curriculum for our current event and a few peers were expressing that basket weaving was not a great idea as an introduction into this curriculum, I was waiting for a moment to jump in and defend it (since I am an art educator) but I was too late! It's okay, I'm still adjusting to the rhythm of our seminars. I do like everyone's perspectives and respect towards others with different ideas. Maybe next meeting I'll be more aggressive about jumping into the conversation when I have opinions!
