Chooks, chooks, and more chooks!

The past two days leading class on my own have gone quite smoothly! My year 8's are behaving wonderfully (probably because half of them have been missing, but that's beside the point) and year 7 has been doing okay. Year 8 started creating their ceramic, pop art cakes slices and they are coming along fantastic! I'm really glad I pushed for this activity because they are super engaged and engrossed in the process of slab building. Year 7 completed their anthropomorphic portraits (finally), and I am ready to move ahead with Georgia O'Keeffe.
Saturday morning, Leanne picked me up to take me to the Bangalow Agriculture and Industrial Show. It was the equivalent of a 4H Fair where people bring their livestock, horses, crafts, baked goods, etc. to be judge. It really reminded me of Indiana! We also got to see the artwork submitted for this year's show, the theme being chooks. Chooks are chickens and/or roosters. One of the students from Byron Bay won the Grand Prize! There was a lot of beautiful work! In the same venue were cakes, flower arrangements, quilts, and more!
We checked out the birds, chooks, and cattle next. There were beautiful birds and cattle and Laenne and I loved looking at all of them! The people who raised them were super proud and knowledgeable about their animals. We then continued on throughout the fair to see all the junk food and rides.
We then stopped at the common grounds and had tea with scones. We then sat and watched the horse show across the way!

Leanne then had to take her dog to a haircut so I stayed back and talked with Paul, the Music Department's head teacher. We had a great conversation about how unique of a town I had landed in. He also affirmed my assumption that a large majority of kids at Byron Bay High School are really spoiled, privilege, lazy, and rude as hell. He said he transferred from a nice school and almost considered quitting within his first year because the students and staff did not give a crap. He said that my experience is definitely influenced by the area and is not indicative of all Australian schools.
I then went into town and shopped a bit and bought the most beautiful clothes! I'm obsessed! After, Leanne picked me up and we went to the beach with Helen for a quick swim. It was lovely!

We were going to go back for fire works, tractor, races, and an assortment of fun evening activities, but it started storming. So I stayed back and had drinks with Anita and Mich, friends of Helens. It was a lovely day jam packed with activities! Had so much fun!
